Now that the world didn’t end, we need to get to work.

Every year around this time, we reflect on the year that is quickly coming to an end and the new one to start. Most people become over excited about the fresh new start and make big plans to change their lives for the better. We are always looking to make the new year THE year. The year where we lose all the unwanted weight, the year where we make tons of money and travel the world, the year that we become Batman.

What ends up happening to most people is we don’t keep our eye on the prize. It’s simple to make a resolution but to make that resolution into a stable realistic goal is something entirely different. With a goal, you must break down what needs to be done and by when. The resolution is basically the ‘dream’ or ‘idea’ that you have. Once you make that into a goal and dig into the guts of it, is how you make it a reality.

Like I mentioned above, a lot of resolutions are the ‘dream’. You state ideally what you would like to happen in the new year but never brainstorm on how exactly you plan on pulling it off. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve made the same exact resolutions year after year with no change. I had to learn to never make repeat goals. If I feel it is something that I really need or want in my life, I need to take it more seriously. If I find myself repeating the same goals over and over, I break them down into micro goals. Eventually you will get to the larger goal if you handle it piece by piece.

When picking out goals to your ideal life, get creative. The crazier the better, honestly. Sit and write down your achievable goals that you can make a part of your day to day life. Put this list of goals somewhere that you will see it on a regular basis. Keep it simple at first, maybe 5 or 6 things you wish to achieve in your daily life until they become habit. If you’re still stuck and can’t be a crazy weirdo like myself, I will give you guys four examples of my personal goals for 2013.

Instead of saying I want to lose weight, I replace losing weight with being happy. Being healthy brings happiness. It has been proven over and over again. In order to be at your complete state of bliss, you have to be putting bliss into your body and become more active. Try not to focus too much on what a scale says to you or how little you’re exercising. When being active be sure you’re doing something you actually enjoy. Dance around, jump on your bed, have a pillow fight, frolic, whatever! Just move your bum. Include little rules in your diet like “I am going to eat a pound of veggies and have half of a cookie for dessert”. The more you add little things into your lifestyle for health, the happier you will be and you will achieve the desired weight you wish to have.

Instead of wanting to make more money, I am going to learn to live within what I am currently making. Document every penny that you spend. You will be shocked at what you’re buying that is so unnecessary. I am a girl with expensive taste so if you’re the same way, I am sure a budget sounds completely not fabulous. Most people that live fabulously live on a budget. You have to be realistic about what you’re purchasing and where your money is going. The better your stick to a budget the more Betsey Johnson you can own. I went on a not so awesome date with a guy that works on Wall Street a couple of months ago and he gave me one of the best pieces of financial advice ever. He told me that if you’re going to invest in something, it should be something that you use daily or you know you will use often. Yep, that was the only positive thing I could take from that date.

Instead of relying on meeting new people to have a good time, I will learn to have more play dates with myself. Maybe go to the cinema one early afternoon alone or go to the park and read a book. Learn to disconnect to connect with others. The more you’re aware of yourself the more likely you will connect with like minded brilliant people.

Instead of saying I want to have a kick ass brand/blog, I will attend lectures, workshops, and gather with like minded bunnies. The kick ass blog and branding will follow the more I surround myself with people and events that will help me get to my next level of rad-ness. Form your bad ass posse, take some classes even if you’re not sure how exactly it will help you get to where you need to be. Explore! The bigger and badder the posse, the better!

I hope these examples helped kick start your list of goals for 2013. NOW is the time to create the world you desire to have. It might take some time to get there but that means it’s completely worth it.

Do you already have some ideas and goals in action? What are some of your wants for 2013?
