back to life

Hey Party Monsters!

Hip hip HOORAY to blogger breaks! Everywhere I turn lately, I am hearing, reading, and conversing with blogger friends about being burnt out. People have been down right crispy! For the past month (both in real life and online) I have come in contact with people that are completely fed up with the crazy world of social media and the stress bloggers feel to produce great content. Stress looks good on NO one.

Well here is some great news for fellow bloggers and entrepreneurs alike! Having a internet business of any sort comes with an insane amount of pressure like most businesses. We are constantly trying to publish content and be current. We are always trying to think of a fun daily saying, checking our google analytics numbers, coming up with a witty tweetable, sharing a pinable image, or checking Facebook “likes”. We have the fear of fading into a virtual black hole. I’m here to inform you that, these fears are complete bullshit.

Blogging is by far one of my favorite things in the world. I recently had a meeting with my business coach and was informed that she enjoyed how much time and energy I put into my site/company but wanted to know what sets it apart from a glorified hobby. This idea wasn’t a fun one to address but, I understood the point she was making. The concept was actually a powerful boost of encouragement. I never want to consider my business as “just a hobby” but I never really want to see feel burnt out and overworked. It’s completely okay to call a time out. Seriously, just take a break.

A break doesn’t have to mean completely avoiding your job or calling it quits. Active breaks are possible. Plan ahead, get your systems in place, and walk away from a few things responsibly. When you’re good and ready, you will come back to life and you’ll be better than ever.

Blogger breaks are completely allowed and should be encouraged more in the blogger universe. Your “time out” will not break the internet. You might be missed for a little while but it will make it all the more special when you are bustin’ out some KICK ASS content. Your readers will be just fine for a while and love you just the same (or more) once you’ve returned.

I have been professionally blogging for a year and a half and have had a ton of great, sometimes embarrassing and terrifying experiences. Taking a break has probably been one of my healthiest and best learning experiences to date. My break put into perspective what I am doing here and I am happier than ever.

So grab a drink, take out a calendar and break responsibly! Breaks can be super helpful but it’s better to add some order to your chaos. Since this was my first major blogger break, here are some tips I would recommend to help you take a chill pill:

❤ Pick your slowest time of year. Being that i’ve only been pro blogging for a year and a half, it was hard for me to figure out when my slowest time would be. With that said, it seemed like I had the fewest readers in April. This information made it a bit easier to decide to take 4 weeks off for the month of April.

❤ Your break is a REAL event. Plan accordingly and make it your priority.

❤ Take advantage of platforms that allow you to schedule your social media postings. Take a day and set up content to go up for the amount of time you wish to take a break.

❤ Don’t feel like you have to completely throw in the towel. It’s okay to update your facebook manually or reply to your emails. Just lighten the load to give yourself some wiggle room.

Bring yourself (and your content) back to life. I find this to be rather necessary if you don’t want to become another abandoned blog on the world wide web. Happy Spring everyone and as always…

Sprinkles and Booze small celebrations

One of my personal life goals is to assure that I am celebrating life daily. No matter how busy or how crazy the day can get, I try to remember the main point of living is to live.

This morning, while away on a Boston business trip I woke up with a case of the Mondays. My back has been bothering me for a couple of weeks now, I have to deal with a minor car issue when I get back home, on top of laundry and the other “gifts” that life hands us along the way. I am trying to make a habit of making daily gratitude lists. No matter how silly or how small the celebration, it’s still a celebration. Here are some of the rad things that are going well in my life right now…

1. Waking up to a beautiful sunny winter day in Boston this morning. Yes, we’ve had a brutal winter but nothing beats the beauty that it truly brings.

2. The coffee maker in my hotel room. I’m about to use the hell out of it and YES, I am excited.

3. Disco the Unicorn! One of my Valentine’s Day gifts from my boyfriend was a stuffed unicorn that I instantly fell in love with. I named him Disco because it seemed proper.

4. My new Stila lip color of choice is Stila Gemma color balm lipstick. This lipstick is so wonderful I might need to have a separate post dedicated to it’s greatness.

5. Awesome party design opportunities that are on the rise. I’ve been properly getting my hustle on and not quitting my daydream. It’s actually paying off and it’s a blessing on a million levels.

6. Laughter! I am forever grateful for being able to laugh and giving the gift of laughter to others (most of the time without even trying).

7. You guys! If it wasn’t for you guys, I definitely would not have made it this far in my blogging/party making career. You are the raddest and complete me.

Life is full of little things to be excited about. No matter how shit your day may seem, there is always something worth celebrating. I have trained myself to push through the rubbish because it is just that…rubbish. Most issues are temporary and shouldn’t get in the way of your overall success and happiness. Sometimes we find it easier to give in to the negative but that is not living.

Gratitude lists are nothing new, but they often get lost in our daily grind. We should all make it our personal goal to remember to cherish and celebrate ourselves. To keep myself on track, maybe I should share my mini daily celebrations more often.

What are you excited about celebrating today? Go out and get a Cotton Candy Cupcake because you deserve one and as always…

New Year Stones Sprinkles and Booze

Best ever New Year my love bunnies.

We have all said goodbye to the beautiful year that was 2013 yesterday. It was an amazingly great year for me and I hope it was the same for you. There were some ups and downs but that is beauty of life. I’ve learned to count my blessings and focus on the positive daily. I have been fighting evil by moonlight, and learning not to let the negativity of others sneak into my love by daylight. Life is too short and precious to spend even more than 10 minutes of your day upset about stuff you can’t change or that will not matter in the long run.

I will be regrouping and working smarter in 2014. I will be educating myself and taking classes to be the well rounded me I know I am on the inside. I want to spend more time with friends and loved ones. I want to complete projects that i’ve put off in the past. I want to take lots of bubble baths, spend more time completely unplugged, and go on long bike rides. I want to send handwritten love letters in the mail and have tea parties. I want to be more courageous and celebrate my victories on a daily.

These are very few of the things I want to achieve this year. I am ready to get to work and stop making excuses. Are you ready? What are you hoping to learn, complete, change, or improve this year? I feel like 2014 is going to be a massive stepping stone for most people. Launch into your destiny.

Happy New Year, my friends and as always…

Christmas Heads BHive Bridgeport Connecticut Sprinkles and Booze

Why hello there!

I took an unofficial mini break from blogging for about a week. With Thanksgiving and other holiday craziness, I needed to take a breather. I blame it on the boogie, or poor planning but more so the boogie.

Man, do I have a whole bunch to get you guys caught up on and will be frantically blogging all weekend into next week. Thank goodness for my honey fix. I mean, I do love honey but in this case I am referring to The B:Hive. Being a member of a coworking space is probably one of the best things that has happened to me this year. Ever since i’ve started a company fueled on my hopes and dreams, I’ve needed the proper setting in which to keep me motivated. If you’re a veteran entrepreneur or new to the scene, a melting pot of great like minded people, brilliant environment, and fun is what is necessary for you to be successful. I promise!

This is especially true since I am purging a ton of my belongings, packing the rest into boxes, and moving (just across town) in a few months. My life has been completely all over the place but knowing that I can escape, collect myself, and work in my office away from home is such a great feeling.

Being a member of a dope coworking space sure as hell beats going to a coffee shop. Don’t get me wrong, I love coffee shops for playdates and…well coffee but you can spend hours in a coffee shop surrounded by townies and hipsters, spend $5-$15, and leave feeling like you still have so much to do. Plus, it’s not an office. If you work for yourself I am sure the last thing you want to do is go to a coffee shop to meet with a client or a sponsor. Unprofessional and unclassy!

The amount of amazing people I meet in my shared office space is intense and so wonderful. It’s refreshing to work alongside people from different industries and backgrounds. I’ve also met folks in which I can collaborate on future projects with. It’s a melting pot of coolness that you wouldn’t necessarily get while working in your PJs at home. In most coworking space, you build a community in which you can have fun and also stay focused.

Anyway, I didn’t mean for this to be an on going rant and rave about my office away from home…or did I?!  I have been here for hours today working on my business ventures of Sprinkles and Booze for 2014 and feel more motivated and blessed than ever. I met some rad new people, listened to some Radiohead, and got a ton of work done today. I feel like it was a Friday well spent and I look forward to many more days of business growth and adventures at The B:Hive.

Lots of updates coming within the next week! Guard your loins, hold on to your knickers, and as always…

Refresh and get to work.

Tuesday, July 9th, 2013

So I must confess, I have been feeling off as of lately. Maybe it’s just a small bump in the road or maybe we can blame Mercury being in retrograde but something has been in the air.

Tonight is the night. It is the night when I am hitting refresh on my life and moving forward towards awesome-hood. The past couple of weeks have been a complete whirlwind and I feel like i’ve lost some control of what I find to be important. It’s time to get organized and stay productive. I want to get my meals, fitness and health back on track. I want have more playdates with friends and stick to strict office hours. I want to catch up on the books i’ve been reading and completely unplug at least one day a week to recharge.

Life is too short to not work hard and play harder. It’s time to be inspired and share inspiration. Are you guys ready?
