What’s up party people?!
If you’re in the Connecticut area, boy do I have the most wonderful mexican spot for you! It’s perfect for hosting small social gatherings, business lunches, to birthday dinners. This past Sunday I tagged along with the Connecticut Blogger Meet-up Group for a tasting. We all met up at Jalapeño Heaven in Branford, CT for a complimentary tasting of great eats and tequila treats. The ever so wonderful and lovely Bonnie from Home Place contacted a friend, the owner of the restaurant, and a very fun and animated brand ambassador for Karma Tequila to put on this brilliant event. I thought I was going to slip into a food coma half way through but it was completely worth it.
As we all know, tequila can be a dangerous, dangerous thing for some. I for one, have experienced a few interesting tequila filled nights. Needless to say, I beyond interested in hearing about Karma Tequila. I’ve heard great things about it prior to the tasting. As we stood there and ate some vibrant tortilla chips and drank some of the House Sangria, we got schooled by the brand ambassador named Scott. He was a riot, straight to the point, and very informative on this mexican made booze.
Karma Tequila is 100% Agave with no additives which I am a complete fan of. I’m all about organic boozing so I knew it would be right up my alley. This smooth handcrafted tequila is a proper blend of double and triple distilled tequila. It will leave you hangover free and with every purchase Karma donates money to “Karma Cares” which is a non-profit that is dedicated to improving children lives worldwide. Learning more about the brand and finally being able to taste Karma Tequila, I simply fell in love.
I have food allergies to seafood so I wasn’t able to try a few of the dishes but they were still great to photograph. I am pretty sure it’s impossible to know a blogger that isn’t writing things done randomly or taking photos and posting them to Instagram. We all sat down and took a million photos and compared notes on what we enjoyed the most. I am not sure if the staff and hosts were prepared for such a chatty and photo taking bunch. Once you get a kick ass group of bloggers together, there is no stopping us. Our only kryptonite might be no internet connection and if we somehow have a freak accident and become mute.
Who would have thought that a salad would have been one of my favorite things to eat at a Mexican restaurant. At Jalapeño Heaven, you have the option to “Build a Salad”. The salad that was served to us was a mix of romaine and iceberg lettuce, with cranberries, avocados, walnuts and cheddar cheese drizzled with a raspberry vinaigrette. I thought I had died and gone to “JALAPEÑO” heaven (Get it?!). It was so amazingly refreshing and good. Also I might add, it was visually beautiful, with super vibrant colors.
My favorite entree was by far the White Enchilada with Spanish Rice. It was a shredded chicken enchilada in a spicy white cheese sause and a blend of cheeses. This was all topped with sour cream. Can I get a YUM YUM?! So amazing. I am pretty sure I want to eat this enchilada everyday for the rest of my life.
With so much food (and booze) in our tummies, my CT Blogger peeps and myself chatted it up, laughed, and continued to Instagram as the tasting wrapped up. We all had a look of concern on our faces because we knew we still had three desserts to try. How could we possibly fit anymore food into our stomachs?! I would have been but a fool if I didn’t leave a little room for dessert! I am beyond proud of myself that I did. The three desserts were a Bananas Foster, an Apple Chimichanga, and a Carmel Flan. I will say this, if you can make it out to Jalapeño Heaven in Branford, CT …you MUST try the Bananas Foster. This dessert consisted of banana slices caramelized with rum and banana liquor flambeed tableside. This was all served over vanilla ice cream with whipped cream. I would have been pretty upset with myself if I didn’t save enough room for this gem! It was perfection on a dessert plate!
A good margarita makes the world go round. With a Karma-rita and Pomegranate Margarita in hand it sure was a wonderful day. I would like to thank Bonnie for putting such an amazing event together. She is completely brilliant and did such an amazing job. As a blogger, events like this are the perfect breeding grounds for creativity, collaboration, and inspiration. Everyone that I have met within the CT Blogger group has been a breath of fresh air. We all understand one another and support one another to the fullest. I left this tasting with a full tummy, properly tipsy, and new friendships. I wouldn’t have asked for a better Sunday and I would like to thank Jalapeño Heaven and Karma Tequila for being a part of it.
