Spread your wings and prepare to fly…

I am not sure if I am alone with thinking this was one of the toughest summers ever to happen. It started with my father having to get surgery to have his gallbladder removed. It should have been a simple procedure but there were a few complications and he is still recovering from a surgery that took place in June. It’s a blessing that he is finally healing and will be coming home soon, but when it rains it pours.

While coping with a sick loved one, I have been helping several close friends that have been dealing with some tough times, I have been struggling with my health, and my hard drive died on my computer. It’s been an overwhelming summer but as they say, you have to deal with the bad to get to the good.

At the start of the summer, Jessica (confetti queen behind The Confetti Bar) and Maddie (stylist Babe-o-saurs Rex of Oh My Gemini) invited myself and a few of my favorite female entrepreneurs to a business brunch. It was this infamous brunch where they revealed a top secret project. You know if The Confetti Bar and Oh My Gemini are cooking up something it is going to be whimsical and perfect! They unleashed the epic-ness that is Monarch Workshop. Monarch Workshop is a two day workshop for the girl that wants to thrive, fly, and conquer. When I was asked to be the social media vixen for a workshop based on helping people pursue their dreams, I couldn’t say YES fast enough.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Monarch was presented to me at the start of the summer before the shit hit the fan in my life. Working on this project with some of my dearest peeps has been the cat’s meow! It has kept my heart aflutter and I am so honored to be a part of something so magical. Here are some of the reasons why I am proud member of Monarch Workshop’s dream team…

Monarch Workshop runs on awesome! The free spirited workshop will always be held in locations that will allow the workshop to spread its fabulous wings. The first ever Monarch Workshop will be held at my home away from home, B:Hive Bridgeport. I have gushed about B:Hive before and I will do it another million times. This is our first stop to bringing together a world of dreamers.

There is nothing more powerful than being around women who are ready to take on the world. Monarch is all about supporting each other, giving that extra push,  unleashing your inner creativity, and believing in yourself. Everyone has a completely different timeline and way of achieving the life they want. Monarch BELIEVES in your timeline and throws some glitter on it.  Let Monarch bedazzle you! Who doesn’t want to be bedazzled?!

Do it for the swag! Monarch Workshop provides the food, motivational speakers, tutorials, spiritual healing, swag, crafting, and the champagne! Everything will be provided for you to elevate your life. All you have to do is show up and bring your dreams. Monarch workshop is a two day cocoon fest. The idea is for you to leave a monarch. It will promote positive thinking, self-reflecting, and creative activity. The workshop is a pick me up on steroids.

I am beyond thankful for having the opportunity to be a part of something so beneficial and necessary to the well being of many. It is my calling and duty to help others pursue their dreams. I believe that asking for help is part of the journey to success. You can try to become amazing on your own but it’s so much more fun to achieve it with a kick-ass posse. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Jessica and Maddie for inviting me to be a part of their journey. I’m ready to rock out with you and take over the world!

I am super jazzed about meeting a lot of you at the first Monarch Workshop. If you’re still interested in going…HURRY and register. Registration closes this coming Monday. The cost of the workshop is $95 for the WHOLE weekend. You read right, 95 bucks! In most places $95 can’t even buy you a month’s worth of yoga. Invest in yourself, invest in your dreams because you’re so very dreamy!

My metamorphosis started in June, I am ready to be a Monarch. Let us all burst out of our cocoons and take flight. Who is ready to spread their wings?

P.S. The entire time I was writing this post I had this jam stuck in my head. Do you remember this song?

Sprinkles and Booze Tooth Ache TV

Hey there my Sprinklers,

It’s the 4th of July and if you’re American or you’re in the states, you know this date represents the birth of a strong and beautiful country. Go shorty, it’s your birthday!

In the Northeast region of the country it has been pouring basically the entire day. To top it off, I am also recovering from dental surgery that I had yesterday. Typically, I am a rain lover but I would have loved to be out grilling some veggies and prepping for a great firework show. But, as we know plans change, and that’s okay!

Mother Nature is the mother of them all, and we must obey her wishes. If we are meant to have a rainy Independence Day, bless it be. The party must go on regardless of tooth issues and a few raindrops. I made my day about watching vintage Batman episodes, afternoon naps, and delicious home cooked asian cuisine. Where there are painkillers, good people, and hope there’s a party.

Here is to a very Happy Birthday, America! And many, many more! As always…

Can I get a what, what?!

Being a blogger and a fan of many blogs in the blogosphere, I often find myself becoming a super fan a lot of great blogs. There are so many inspirational people out there in the same hustle and grind as myself. One of the bloggers I have followed closely since the birth of Sprinkles and Booze has been radness known as Ty Alexander.

A few weeks ago, my friend Natasha from One Woman’s Style mentioned a post she saw for bloggers in the NYC area. She quickly forwarded the information to me and the universe unfolded in the most beautiful of ways. It turns out the blog that was looking to hire was the blog of Ty Alexander, Gorgeous In Grey.

I am now proud to say I am one of the newest editors for Gorgeous In Grey! I am beyond thrilled to be joining the team and having a new outlet that will welcome my excitement with a splash of weird. I will be posting to GIG bi-weekly as of next week about everything from styling tips to weirdo life hacks. It will be a complete blast!

The other perks of landing this sweet editor’s position is I will be forced to stick to a strict editorial calendar. I will be making regular posts to not only Gorgeous In Grey and Sprinkles and Booze but also Black Girl Nerds.  Writing for these two additonal kick ass online publications will enable me to bring more of a party vibe to Sprinkles and Booze. Bring on the events, tips on how to treat everyday like it’s your birthday, tips on how to party and remain healthy, style boards, party crafts and products, and much much more! Everything has been falling into place in the most beautiful way and you guys have been a part of this growth from the start.

Party on guys! I would like to thank Ty Alexander for giving believing in me and adopting me into her awesome piece of the blogosphere! As always…

Trials and Tribulations of a Party Monster Extraordinaire.

The behind the scenes of the making of a Party Life + Style blog seems like it should be a constant world of glitter, rainbows, and kittens but the truth of the matter is, it’s not always glamorous.

As a blogger, it can be a bit much having people aware of your plans and what you’re working towards. You have to prepare for a lot of “Are you sure that is what you want to do?” or “That idea is crazy?” and sometimes just straight up haters. You also have to deal with people learning your “secret sauce” sort of speak. They want to know what you’re cooking up next in your business plans and how projects are coming along. Though this is to be expected, it can sometimes be overwhelming and even discouraging.

Recently, I was given feedback about my company and blog that I wasn’t sure was positive or negative. The short of the awkward story is, I came out of the situation realizing there are a bunch of stereotypes in the blogosphere about the type of blog one should run based on their appearance. Being a “trendy” female of color, people assume that I have a gossip blog, talk about ethnic hair products, or I must only write about the latest World Star video. While there is nothing wrong with blogs of these nature, it gives me a bit more work when representing my site and brand. This is something I accept and I am tough enough for the challenge.

Putting your dreams and hopes out there for people to bare witness to is forever terrifying but it comes with the territory. Learning to use the positive and negative to your benefit is a skill. Once you develop this skill, almost nothing can stop you.

My positive outlook towards the negative that comes with being my own boss didn’t come easy and to be honest probably never will. I have days where I wonder if I made the right choices and I am full of doubt. The trick is figuring out the healthiest way to deal with the problems so that you’re able to return back to your kick ass party that is life.

The insane amount of support I have received since the start definitely outweighs the negative. One of my favorite moments during my blogger break last month was receiving a “Member Appreciation” award at B:Hive’s 1 year anniversary party. It might sound sappy or crazy but I was on the verge of tears when handed this tiny plastic award. This tiny piece of plastic represents the supportive entrepreneurs that have become like family to me and have shown nothing but support for the beginning. It symbolizes love on a personal and professional level. It symbolizes every victory I achieve. It symbolizes a breath of fresh air when I am so mentally exhausted. It symbolizes my journey in designing a life that I adore.

Getting back to the day to day hustle as a blogger and party stylist has been intense and beautifully positive. I have YOU to thank and my massive support system that has come together fiercely and fabulously over the past year. I know for a fact I could not have made it this far (with a SUPER long way to go) on my own. I have nothing but gratitude and love for what the universe has been blessing me with. The future seems oh so glittery and bright for us all.

Tell me about some of your struggles and how you get over perceptions? What keeps your life party thriving? Thank you for allowing me to a sappy Sally from time to time. As always…
