Makin’ the time for time management.

time sprinkles

Recently, my life has drastically changed (for the better) but also taken on a lot more projects, goals, and responsibilities. I have been quite busy and I love it but on and off I struggle with time management.

Coming out of the typical 9 to 5 office world and being thrown into the blogosphere was a bit terrifying and I am still developing my footing. Being pushed into something I love was probably one of the best things that could have happened to me but at the same time I need to develop a new structure. A lot of goals and new business ventures were born in a very short amount of time and I wasn’t prepared. Because of all of the insanity, I was forced into making a list of my rules for proper time management. I decided to share with you guys in hopes that it helps with your personal goals and making them a reality.

Figuring out what your goals are and where to place them. This is a big part of managing your time. If you state and figure out your goals, you will be able to break them down into time. Sadly, there is no way to expand time, so this is when we need to figure out what is the most important in our goal buckets. I made a system as to what is the most important to me to the least (but still) important. Everyone’s system of importance will always work out differently and you can always switch things out as your life changes and when it is necessary. Sort out your goal bucket to what fits best to your current life. Please, please, please don’t forget to include “you” time. Don’t become a crazed workaholic or constantly feel as if you need to be working towards something within your goal bucket. Your goals will quickly become your chores if you try to constantly work towards them.

So, what’s the game plan? Once you take your bucket of goals and figure out what is most important to you, you need to come up with a plan in which you will achieve these goals. I am QUEEN of lists. I like making to-do lists and putting a time frame on each thing on my lists. I find that I am way less productive if I don’t have a list of what I should be doing. Sometimes I even set little alarms as to when to stop doing something to move on to the next. I like making a game out of this from time to time and I use fun apps to help. Handwritten lists are also still my favorite because there is something magical about crossing things off. It is similar to the feeling of beating a boss in a video game. It’s a precious moment.

What a waste! We all can spend HOURS on Pinterest and Instagram. Hell, as a blogger it’s sort of part of the job. You can still do your internet lusting but you need to schedule it in. It sounds a bit odd but if you put a time limit on how long you’re browsing, playing, or taking a breather it will free up more time to be working on things you really find more important.

More bang for your buck. How many things can you comfortably do at once? Multi-tasking can and will be your friend but only if you want it to be. For example right now I am doing laundry, baking muffins, and blogging. Imagine if I tried to do all three of those things completely separately and how long it will take to get them done. Always brainstorm on ways to make multi-tasking work in your favor. You will be surprised as to how much you can get done, once you have the proper system in line. Do I smell something burning?

No means no. The more projects I am offered and the more my crazy home on the internet grows, I am getting offered more and more great projects and collaborations. Yes, I am still rather new in the blogging world and developing my title as a professional party thrower but it’s never too soon to say no to things. Always handle what is already on your plate before going for seconds. The more you take on the more you feel overwhelmed. Take on what you can handle and once things are completed or become easier, you can add to your already busy schedule.

In conclusion, none of us are Superman (and if you are, call me). You will come into times where you feel like you’re running late on everything and you just want to throw in the towel. Fortunately, if you have your own system for time management in line you can always play catch up and re-work it so you’re getting more done for the time we are given. Do not let those bad timing days ruin your life. Stop stressing because it gives you wrinkles and can make you sick. Every effort towards your goal is a good effort. Always push forward to be bigger and better but don’t go crazy trying to get there.

Educate yourself, before you wreck yourself: The Blog Workshop

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

As my blog grows within the blogosphere, I am always educating myself. I am always looking for more workshops, lectures, books, blogger friends, you name it! One of the most important things you can do is make sure you stay educated and connected to others in this crazy world of blogging.

There are a number of workshops that are coming up that I would LOVE to attend but, you know as well as I do, you can’t make it to all of them. Upon my reach, I came across The Blog Workshop. This seemed a bit fitting being that the workshop is completely online. I mean, you can’t complain about travel if there is no travel required.

Another thing that grabbed my attention is that it is rather affordable. There are tons of great workshops out there that can be on the pricey side of things. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in investing in yourself but sometimes you can’t always get the funds at the time in which you need them. The Blog Workshop is a smashing option if you’re looking for something affordable. You get a lot of bang for your buck especially since you don’t have the extra expense of traveling.

Upon finding out about The Blog Workshop, I started reading about the speakers to get a feel of what knowledge will be shared during this weekend workshop. I became rather jazzed when I saw the speakers will range from bloggers to company CEOs. When educating yourself on how to be the best blogger you can be, it’s wise to study your craft from all angles.

Oh, how can I forget this awesome detail! They are giving away a ton of prizes as well (which I hope to get in on) like vlogging equipment among other great things. I mean, it is sort of a no brainer if you want to expand your brand. You can possibly win some more tools to help with the expansion AND get more fun blogging brain nuggets! I love learning AND I super love prizes!

The conference is May 17th-19th and the ticket sales end May 10th so if you’re interested definitely hop to it! Because you guys are amazing and deserve the best, you can use this Discount Code: TBW25HURRY but, hurry it expires on April 26th. If you still are curious you can read the FAQ’s for the workshop here. Let’s take over the blogging world together with our awesome-hood.

I leave you with a video from one of the exciting speakers that will be at the upcoming conference…

Happy 100th Post!

Friday, March 29th, 2013

In my personal life, this post could not have come at a better time. It’s crazy to think I am already 100 posts into Sprinkles and Booze AND my six month blog anniversary is next month. Where does the time go?

I used the series of photos posted above because they are pictures of me and my most natural of states. It’s for the most part what i’ve looked like for the past two days. Sexy, huh? I have been a complete bundle of lack of motivation and not knowing where to start on projects. Motivation is a tricky beast and it goes and comes as it pleases.

To kick start my motivation, I figured it would be best to mentally explore the tips and tricks that I like to use in order to kick start my motivation for the action packed weekend I have ahead of me. The secret to most of my motivation is I always do what I love. It’s almost impossible not to be motivated when you’re doing something you’re passionate about. I am passionate about helping others, creating, and looking for beauty in the world around me. As soon as I decided this was going to be the topic of my post today, ideas and inspiration started to flow. It’s the natural flow of the universe. Think about it. If you’re struggling with something that you’re doing, it might be a sign that you’re not meant to be doing it. You have to listen to your gut! It’s something I had to learn for myself after years of wasting time doing things I didn’t love.

So, I mentioned there was a lack of motivation the last couple of days, right? Even if I am doing something I am passionate about, it is VERY possible to hit a little plateau and feel like it’s difficult to get your groove back. We all have these moments. These are the moments when we sit around and watch endless amount of Netflix and eat everything in your home involving sugar and feel sorry for yourself. Well ladies and gentlemen, we all need to learn to not give in to these moments. If I learned anything from the last couple of days, it’s that giving in to being unmotivated only makes matters worse. Being unmotivated is exactly the reason why I am writing this post. I am doing something about it and getting motivated and already feel better.

I am sure this wouldn’t surprise a lot of you, but when I have these moments I refer to it as “Making an appointment with my motivational speaking unicorn”. It’s when you snap out of it and realize there is work to be done and you do it. We tend to get side tracked by the influence of others or sometimes it’s just simple laziness. Whatever got you to that point of, “I don’t want to” can easily be fixed once you realize, “I am wasting time and there is life to live”.

Which brings me to the moral of the story…get started. Even if it’s something small like writing out your thoughts or working on something for a few minutes a day. It makes the biggest difference. I’m super jazzed that this is my 100th post. It shows the fruits of my labor and so many more great things are cookin’ up! Be sure to stay tuned, beautiful bunnies. Thank you for being a part of my little piece of the internet.

What do you like to do when you’re unmotivated? Do you have a secret magical motivational speaking unicorn in your closet?

Stay sexy, Gotham!

Blogcadets united!

Saturday, February 2nd, 2013

If I said it once, I will say it again…having a kick ass supportive team is key to getting the results you wish. No one that is successful has ever fully gone all the way alone. It’s one of the best kept secrets to awesome-hood!

Jamie (the amazing blogger behind Intertitles) and myself spent hours today catching up for the first time since Blogcademy in NYC which happened in October 2012. Like mentioned in my Blogcademy recap, it was one of the greatest things that could happen to me.

It’s impossible to not feel a great bond and sisterhood with all blogcadets. Even the cadets I haven’t had the chance to meet (yet!). It’s such a wonderful, glittery, explosion of positive energy and great vibes and I would die to have the wonderful experience over and over again.

On top of being the chat-tastic ladies we are, Jamie and I worked on our weekly blog updates, talked about having ready to go content (to make life easier), and balancing our time with the very busy lives we all have as bloggers. It was inspiring and definitely gave me a boost of blogging energy.

It’s a blessing to know such amazing, supportive and hard working ladies that deal with all of the same ups and downs that I battle. Develop a plan, build youd glitter filled loving entourage, and create your fairytales, my loves.

Forever sprinklin’ the fairy dust in your face,

P.S. I had the pleasure of seeing the video from the Blogcademy classes in London this evening. So dreamy! ❤ You girls rock!

What a start to a year.

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

We have completed our first month of 2013 and honestly, it feels like it should already be March. So much has happened in the past 31 days.

In between the bitter cold days and windstorms, I went to some amazing workshops and lectures. These motivational talks happened earlier in the month which set the mood for the rest of the month in a positive way. It doesn’t mean there wasn’t major challenges.

Like a lot of people, I battle from time to time with “how hard am I working towards the things I want within my life”. In your heart, you know how hard you’re working towards something and what else you should be doing to get to where you wish to be. I personally feel super unorganized and that I should be doing more to create my fairytale.

With February starting tomorrow, I want to inform you that if you had an off or not so ideal start to your year in January, it is never too late to start towards your fairytale. If you REALLY are one for start dates, start your new year on the Chinese New Year which is February 10th. Things are about to get fancy, sparkly, and fantastic. Embrace it and love it! It’s time to make it work.

Happy new you,
